So Albuquerque was a lot of fun! Thanks so much to Ashley and Kurt for letting me crash their futon. The dog is their dog Gizmo...he's pretty awesome. When I first got in they showed me around a bit and I really got a feel for the city. It's got a lot of interesting texture to it. I don't know if it's the immense socio-historical impoverishment or it's just made to be like that, but the whole feel of the city was really fun and vibrant. And, for some reason, I was totally not expecting the amount of hipsters that live there....I'm not sure why I was so surprised by that.
So on my way to the Grand Canyon, I saw signs for the Petrified Forest National Park. It's basically a scenic route on Route 66 between Flagstaff and Albuquerque. It was a swamp from the Triassic period that is basically now a desert with all sorts of beautiful scenery to look at.

There were ancient tribal patterns carved on these rocks...but you can't see them. |
This was part of the petrified forest. All these trees basically are made of crystal now. Pretty cool. |
Cutest dog ever! What kind is it?
