Albu-quirky...GET IT?!

So Albuquerque was  a lot of fun!  Thanks so much to Ashley and Kurt for letting me crash their futon.  The dog is their dog Gizmo...he's pretty awesome.  When I first got in they showed me around a bit and I really got a feel for the city.  It's got a lot of interesting texture to it.  I don't know if it's the immense socio-historical impoverishment or it's just made to be like that, but the whole feel of the city was really fun and vibrant.  And, for some reason, I was totally not expecting the amount of hipsters that live there....I'm not sure why I was so surprised by that.

So on my way to the Grand Canyon, I saw signs for the Petrified Forest National Park.  It's basically a scenic route on Route 66 between Flagstaff and Albuquerque.  It was a swamp from the Triassic period that is basically now a desert with all sorts of beautiful scenery to look at.

The Painted Desert.

There were ancient tribal patterns carved on these rocks...but you can't see them.

This was part of the petrified forest.  All these trees basically are made of crystal now.  Pretty cool.

Roswell, NM

So on my way from Carlsbad to Albuquerque, I stopped off in Roswell.  It's where the International UFO Museum and Research Center is located.  It was only five bucks and it gives you the basic history of UFO cover-ups, sightings, abductions and the like.  As a lover of all things weird and a follower of oddities, I must say...it was just dumb.

The majority of the museum was just a poorly crafted scrapbook of newspaper clippings tacked on the wall.  The few interesting things I took pictures of and posted for your enjoyment.  Please, hold your applause for after the tour.

This dummy had nothing to do with aliens.  Cool.

This is a diorama of what it MIGHT have looked like if an alien spacecraft crashed right next to a few green army men and a Tonka truck. Neat!
This is claimed to be a fragment of an alien space craft.  Is it real?

 Guess not.  Shocker!!

Another  artist's interpretation of the alien's crash landing.

In case you're wondering.  Yes, Bigfoot is an alien from another planet.  Shoulda known!

Maybe next time he'll learn not to come to our planet and try to take our jobs!
